AELITA MADE OF STARS

There’s a fine line between gods and monsters.

A thousand years ago, gods walked the earth freely, feeding on the souls of all beings below them, tamed only by the sacrifice of those with magic in their blood. Guided by the sentinel god, Rias, humans of the southern territories learned to harvest and manipulate the magic in the earth for themselves, using it to chain the gods to the sky. And for a thousand years, the constellations have held the gods in place—most of the time.

Aelita Royas was born with magic, condemned to sacrifice like many before her if she is discovered. When a starfall takes a deadly turn, Aelita makes a choice, and her childhood nemesis, Finnley Alvaron, discovers her secret. In his attempt to turn her in, Finnley stumbles upon a traitorous coup. They are forced to flee with a military brigade on their heels, but between them and salvation is the wildlands, where an ancient star god stalks the night.

Aelita and Finnley make for the Empire Kestella and its sympathetic emperor who harbors secrets of his own. The plot Finnley uncovered may be enough to ignite a war between two powerful territories, but Aelita and her forbidden magic may be what it takes to stop it.

 STARHUNTER

After Roque’s wife is sacrificed to the gods for the crime of star-cursed magic—the same magic he himself carries—he vows to rebuild a society in which his kind might live without fear. But to rebuild something is to tear down the previous structure, and Roque plans to start with the Ryamari organization that tore his life apart.

Mairi Keir has dedicated her life to the pursuit of Malstella, dangerous magic bearers descended from the star gods. When the horse star breaks free of its constellation, leaving a trail of bodies in its wake, Mairi suspects a stronger influence is responsible. If there is star-cursed magic at work, she’ll have to root it out and capture the Malstella before it can bring down an entire city.

THE LAST SPIRIUS SON

Thoren was born with magic in his veins. This alone condemns him to death by sacrifice should he ever be discovered, but he is a boy twice-cursed. If his end doesn’t come from a sacrificial blade, he is all but destined to die during the Crowning. The event of a lifetime, the Crowning is a series of trials through which only one of the emperor’s sons will emerge victorious and take the crown. Thoren is the youngest of twenty-seven sons. A bastard of the lowest breed. Nothing but fodder to be cut down for entertainment. But, despite his disadvantages, he’s going to win. He’ll do it to show his mother who abandoned him that he wasn’t a mistake. He’ll do it for his older sister who stayed by his side. He’ll do it for himself.

 DAUGHTER OF DUST

I wrote DAUGHTER OF DUST and QUEEN OF IRON in 2018-19. They’re still on the shelf, but hopefully someday I will get back to my Charlie girl someday.

Charlie is the last Rothstone, a contender to inherit the withered city of Karskairn, where she who controls the water holds the power. Charlie is smaller and gentler than most, but no less determined to make her mother proud, by taking down the biggest gang leader in Karskairn: Larkin Darrow.

While Charlie is still loyal to her family, her boyfriend Ashton Darrow renounced his birthright the moment his father sold him out, and he spent four years imprisoned in the karst mines. His lungs wasted away, every medicine failing to help except for one: the fabled merfolk beneath the city. But Ashton refuses to consider the idea if it means going back underground. Before he dies, he wants to see his father fall.

When Charlie gets a chance to destroy Larkin Darrow and save her boyfriend, she’ll go to the source of Karskairn’s water, into the utopian river city of Nantaria, to do what she does best: steal trains. A shaky alliance starts to crumble, enemies offer unexpected aide, and merfolk aren’t the sweet, beautiful creatures from story. Charlie is unsure who to trust and Ashton’s time is running out. When her loyalty is tested, she’ll have to choose between family, duty, and her freedom. As tensions rise between gangs and Charlie’s attempt to derail Karskairn’s violent cycle falters, her world escalates into a free-for-all war.

      1. Yeah Photoshop. My WordPress is usually pretty dead. I don’t post on it often and don’t have many followers. Twitter is my main social media. People usually get a hold of me there.

  1. You are astonishingly talented, Soraya. I found your site through Simon and I love fantasy genre. I love the map of Valen but then I lived in Cairo so deserts fascinate as do djinns.

    1. Thank you so much, Kerry! Simon was so sweet to share because I don’t have many followers here. Fantasy is my life, and Valen is for one of my books. I lived in Japan for a couple years, and I loved being overseas. Cairo sounds really cool!

      1. Cairo is really hot! 😁 You will soon have lots of followers if you hunt around for the blogs that interest you and make comments on them. Be picky, though, there are some strange people out there…

      1. Okay. I am surprised you haven’t done maps for your fantasy novel. Even if it were only for yourself. I normally don’t read fantasy novels, but I see you posted some sample chapters. I will give it a try. Nice talking to you. Best of luck in all of your creative work.

  2. Hello Soraya, I am looking for a copy of that map that you created for the book “The Starless Crown”.
How can I get a copy?
In an interview James Rollings said that you also created a version of the books map in color.
That would be nice, but mostly I just need a copy of the map where I can see the details so I can follow along as I read the book. Thanks for your help.
